Did you know that almost 1/3 of all women would sacrifice a vacation to avoid being seen in a swimsuit? And that 38 percent of women say that shopping for swimsuits is the most stressful of all pre-vacation tasks? I was shocked at these statistics upon first glance, but then I thought it over again and realized that I can actually relate. Since moving to New York City in January for grad school, I’ve been focused on my studies, making friends and finding my own way in the city. Eating as healthy as I used to and hitting the gym every day, I’ll admit, has been a struggle. I’m about 10 pounds up from my Miss USA days, and when I look at photos from a year ago onstage I feel some body insecurity. To put it simply, getting into a swimsuit simply hasn’t been as fun as it used to be.
Earlier this month I found out last minute that I had booked a modeling job and would be flying to Hawaii for my spring break. My first thought was: ahh, I need to hit the gym! And my second thought was: let me book a spray tan real quick to make everything look a little tighter. And my third thought was: maybe I’ll just skip the beach altogether – I can hang out with my friends at the mall or go out for coffee to catch up. That’s the moment I decided I should follow my own advice from last month and vacation fearlessly by taking the #NOFOMO challenge. In essence, it’s about getting outside of your comfort zone and tackling swimsuit season with no fear and no missing out.
I’m proud to say that I flaunted my Target bikini at the beach all spring break long and it felt empowering to just get out there and have fun without worrying what anyone else would think. I skipped the spray tan and even had a cover up and big floppy hat, but I didn’t feel the need to hide behind them. I’m sharing these unedited photos because I hope to inspire you too to take the #NOFOMO challenge and share them on your social media with the hashtags #TargetStyle and #NOFOMO. If you’re a fellow blogger, you can pass on the love by taking your own #NOFOMO challenge on your blog and encourage your readers to do the same!
