To say that my hometown of Honolulu, Hawaii has shaped my fashion sense would be an understatement. Everything from the rich culture to the warm weather to the unique shops and boutiques we have here have played a role in discovering my own personal style. When Old Navy asked me if I wanted to create my own Hawaii-inspired look for its #50styles50states program, my answer was of course an immediate yes!
If you live in the aloha state, or have just stopped by to visit, then you know that Hawaii is as casual as they come. Laid back coffee shops and backyard barbeques are the norm, jeans are an absolute wardrobe staple, and footwear is entirely optional. When I set my sights on these black espadrilles, however, I knew they had to be mine and saw myself wearing them with everything from these skinny jeans to sundresses. This top also incorporated a floral element that screamed ‘Hawaii’ to me. Hawaiian style and boho vibes go hand in hand and this hat was a perfect way to add that finishing touch to the look.
One of my favorite things about travelling is observing how different cities and cultures can help to shape personal style. Even though I went to college in Cali, studied abroad in London, and grad school in New York, my relaxed Hawaii style is my one constant that I take with me everywhere I go.
