To me, the best kind of hotels are the ones that instantly make you feel at home. The ones where you just want to kick off your shoes, flop down on the bed and daydream about moving in for good. That’s exactly what it felt like when Holden and I stay-cationed at The Laylow last weekend. The property is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and has a total boutique hotel feel. I kept telling Holden that if I wasn’t from Hawaii and I was just visiting, I’d 100% pick something like this over a huge resort. The mid-century furnishings and décor had me pulling out my camera every time I turned a corner and as a complete photo-a-holic, you could say I was in heaven.
We checked in on a Friday afternoon, hit the pool before getting ready for dinner, and dined at The Laylow’s in-house restaurant called Hideout. I loved that it was casual and there were a mix of locals and visitors, plus there is an outdoor patio seating area complete with fire pits where you can have a drink or a meal. We shared the guacamame (a delicious mashup of guacamole and edamame), brussel sprouts and a miso prime ribeye steak which was to die for. And surprise surprise, dessert was my favorite part — the pannacotta was the perfect end to a perfect meal. Since we dined way early, we decided to walk over to the new International Market Place which is right next door (hotels get extra points in my book when they’re located right next to malls, haha!) and browsed the shops before calling it a night.
It was such a relaxing weekend and I will definitely be back. Thanks to The Laylow Waikiki for having us at your hotel!
