I can’t believe it’s just 12 days before I leave for Miss USA. In preparation, I’ve been watching tons of hair and makeup tutorials online and buying up lots of products, both new and old favorites, to take with me. Here are some of my June beauty buys…
YSL Touche Eclat — I wanted to try this highlighter because I’ve heard so many great things about it, and even saw it on friends when it looked amazing. But long story short, I don’t personally think it’s worth the $42 and there are so many other highlighters that are a fraction of the cost that are just as luminous.
MAC Lip Liner in Soar — Best lip liner for me. Hands down. Wish I had discovered this five years ago. The prettiest mauvey pink that I love mixing with MAC lipsticks mehr or whirl.
MAC 35 Lashes, Flutter Lashes in Annabelle, Ardell Lashes in 118 — Pageant prep means time to stock up on lashes! It might seem weird that I buy lashes in such a wide range of prices — Flutters are around $30, Mac 35s are $17, and Ardell lashes can be found in the drugstore for $3. It just depends what kind of look I’m going for on any given day. With mink lashes, I don’t use mascara on them so I can get 10+ uses out of them, so I use them for a more delicate or refined look. I love double stacking drugstore lashes for a fuller look, then using mascara to blend them together for a really dramatic look. Best thing to do when stacking lashes is to pick out a nice fluffy pair for length and one shorter, denser pair for volume. Apply the longer one first, and the dense pair second.
MAC Lipsticks in Honey Love and Whirl — Since I’m leaving for Miss USA in less than two weeks, I knew I needed to really try lots of lipsticks out and find a solid nude, mauve pink, darker pink, and red, so there’s no experimenting once I get there. Enter Honey Love (I totally saw a girl wearing this perfect nude lip at Nordstrom and went up to her and asked what lip color she was wearing!) and Whirl (try this if you want the Kylie Jenner look). Whirl lipstick is only available at MAC Pro stores and online right now, and I think it will hit department store counters in a week or two.
MAC Studio Finish Face Powder in Gold — Umm hello, where have you been all my life? I was told when I bought it that this container would last me years, but I’m still considering buying another for fear that MAC discontinues this product. It gives a nice golden sheen and I use it on a beauty blender just above my cheekbones and around the outside of my eye if that makes sense.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural — When I do a full cream contour of my face (usually for pageant appearances or special events) I use my L.A Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer in ‘natural’ for the highlight and ‘toffee’ for the areas I want to shade. These are my favorites because they have built-in brushes and are super easy to apply, plus they’re less than $3 each which is amazing! Anyway, once I ran out of my last setting powder I’ve been on the hunt for a powder that will set my highlight and this one’s amazing. Since I have dry skin, this powder is more moist than a loose powder so it works wonders.
