I always love getting my hair and makeup done for a couple reasons — it’s always better than anything I can do on myself, and also I just find it pretty relaxing. But while I was at Miss USA, someone gave me the tip to never get your hair or makeup done without holding up a compact or mirror to watch exactly what they were doing. This way, you can pick up on all of their tips from their brushstrokes to tips for the perfect cat eye or over lining your lips to make them look fuller (if you’re into that Kylie Jenner life). Example: for the perfect cat eye, start with your eyes first before applying any foundation, and when you’re done applying shadow, use a makeup wipe from the corner of your eye outward to create the perfect line. Then follow the line with liquid liner and voila! Scotch tape can also help you achieve the same effect.
Switching gears a little, I wanted to share my favorite beauty buys from July, starting with my ColourPop Lippie Stix. I was way late to the game on these because I had been happy with my signature Mac Mehr lipstick which I wore almost every day until these entered my life. What I like best about them is that every lippie color has a coordinating lip liner, which is key for getting that clean line we all want and love. They come in a few different finishes from matte to hyper-glossy but my favorite color by far is Lumière, which is the perfect creamy mauvey pink. I also LOVE Tootsi and mixing Brink with in with the others to add a bit of an earthy brown tone. I’ll say that my least favorite was Heart On because it was just too pinky bright for me, but it’s a pretty color nonetheless. I’ve included swatches below of the ones I ordered, and I just put in another order for their sheer formulation which just came out last Thursday. Swatches to come!
Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso — I don’t usually buy drugstore blushes but after trying this one I don’t know why because it’s the best blush I’ve ever purchased that was less than $10. It’s a lovely peach tone which is a nice change from my go-to pink toned blushes.
Shiseido Eyelash Glue — You can’t find this lash glue in the US but it’s a cult favorite in Japan and I love it because after removing your lashes, all of the glue comes off in one strip instead of having to sit there an pick of bits of glue…I hope that makes sense! You can find it on eBay, and I’ve listed the link above.
CHI Haircare and Image Skincare Products — I was gifted all of these items while at Miss USA but before I recommend them I want to try them out for a bit longer so I can really get a feel for if they’re holy grail items or not. Stay tuned!
