They say that life begins at the end of your comfort zone, and my goal is to every year visit at least one place I’ve never been before. Last week we had an amazing adventure in Madrid, then made our way to Barcelona, and are now living it up in Lisbon. But before we got here, tragedy struck in Barcelona and as I’m sure you’ve heard, there was a terrorist attack on Las Ramblas, a major pedestrian mall that we had strolled down at the very same time just one day before. The night of the incident my friend Emily came back to our room and told me that there was an accident involving a truck, but didn’t have too much information. So we went out as planned and were on our way to visit the famous cathedral La Sagrada Familia. As we were walking through the crowded streets, we saw people crying, the roar of ambulances, helicopters flying above, lots of police tape and people running for safety — we knew something terrible had happened. There were huge signs that residents had placed in windows telling tourists to stay indoors. It was the first time I’d been truly scared in a while. We cancelled our plans and were glued to our phones making sure no additional incidents would hinder our safety, and sending all of our thoughts to those affected.
Since then I’ve been traveling and having a wonderful time in Lisbon, but still reflecting on how grateful I am for each day and how tomorrow is never promised. It’s so important to live your best life no matter what that means to you. Love on your family and friends, take the trip of a lifetime, quit the job you hate and find one you love, and wear the outfit that brings you the most joy. Here’s mine 🙂
Feeling grateful! xoxo
