What on earth am I doing in a turtle neck sweater, long pants and booties in Hawaii, you might be asking. There’s a very simple answer for this: fashion isn’t always practical. Sometimes it’s just fun. If it was always practical, why would we ladies traipse around daily in high heels? Because they’re fun, oftentimes beautiful, and make us feel like total #girlbosses.
I remember when I was competing at Miss USA I brought with me the five highest pairs of heels I owned and no flats at all (aside from my workout shoes). Every night after a full day in heels my feet would ache and I would soak them in an epsom salt bath to make sure I was ready to go the next day. Holden would always ask me why I would kill myself trying to wear heels every day when it was totally impractical to wear 6-inch platforms on a boating excursion. My answer: because I wanted to and I felt good in them! I guess the moral of this story comes down to this: find your fashion motto and stick to it. Mine is “forget the rules, if you like it wear it.”
